It’s been 27 years since Police Academy introduced the world to a rag-tag group of would-be cops. Since then, the cast of characters has gone everywhere from Miami to Moscow… to back in training.

This week, with the release of the Police Academy Collection (films 1-3), Mancave Daily pays homage to these classic films by showcasing our favorite cadets and their manliest qualities. These are the weapons we wish we were armed with in our own day-to-day operations.

Cadet Mahoney: Mahoney is so charming he could talk someone into getting a ticket. He’s the anti-”excuse me officer, but….” If we could talk our way into trouble like Mahoney, what a trip life would be! He’s not one to get rattled with his cool, calm and collected demeanor. When Lt. Harris asks Mahoney what he was doing at the Academy, Mahoney responds, “I’m meeting women, sir.” Brilliant.

Cadet Jones: Michael Winslow needs no introduction. His ability to make sound effects is unparalleled. Unlike anyone else in the Academy, Jones uses his mouth as a weapon. Imagine being able to get yourself out of an awkward situation by sounding out a telephone (“Sorry, I have to take this call…”) or out of traffic by mimicking a police siren. It’s a superpower!

Cadet Hightower: Played by former NFL defensive end Bubba Smith, Hightower stands some 6-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs a respectable 265 pounds. Needless to say, he’s a bit of an intimidator. Hightower carries around some high-powered artillery under his sleeves… ones we are certainly envious of. With guns like that, who needs actual firearms?

Cadet Tackleberry: Tackleberry lives by the mantra “go big or go home.” He is MacGyver-like in his ways, but uses big guns and lots of ammo to back it up. His gun closet is really more of an armory. Tackleberry can also take a hit; he’s the toughest guy in the Academy. Of course it helps to be completely and totally insane.

Cadet Fackler: As clumsy as Fackler is, remember that he isn’t one to cave to his wife’s nagging demands. He is his own man. In fact, we are introduced to him as he drives to the Academy with his wife holding onto the hood of his car. If only we could disobey our old lady every once in a while.

Cadet Martin: Here is a man who showed up on his first day at the Academy with five, yes, FIVE girlfriends in his car. I think that fact alone speaks to his greatness.

The cadets of Police Academy are trained to protect and serve, or at least entertain. And each has a manly quality that would fit nicely into any man’s arsenal. Mancave Daily salutes these fine specimens of manliness.
